What our leaders must prioritize

Based on recent research by Supermajority and Supermajority Education Fund, we know that women want leaders to address our most pressing challenges with actual plans that will: end the COVID-19 pandemic, combat rampant racism and racial injustice, protect the Affordable Care Act, raise the minimum wage, provide more stimulus payments, help us take care of the people we love, and protect this election and our democracy.

1. End Systemic Racism and Inequality

Women want leaders to replace a culture of hate and division with one of compassion and unity. We want leaders to confront racism and inequality in our systems by:

  • Naming the impact of systemic racism, and dismantling the institutions that contribute to racial inequities and discrimination
  • Rejecting any proposed expansion of police budgets and instead increasing investments in communities (i.e. local schools, living wage jobs, affordable housing and health care)
  • Holding police accountable for their crimes
  • Ensuring schools teach a more comprehensive curriculum that includes the history and ongoing impact of systemic racism

2. Immediate and Long-Term Economic Relief

Women want leaders to provide immediate relief during this pandemic by:

  • Sending monthly stimulus payments to people in this country for 12 months
  • Extending the expanded unemployment benefit at the $600 level through the end of the year
  • Providing more funding for state and local governments to protect and support their communities

It will take months and years for many women to feel financially secure after the Trump administration’s disastrous inaction on COVID-19. Working families deserve to thrive, and women deserve a leader who recognizes the value of our work. We want leaders to address our long-term financial needs by:

  • Raising the minimum wage to $15
  • Ending pay discrimination and increasing pay transparency
  • Creating more affordable housing options in communities across the country

3. Access to Quality, Affordable Health Care

Even during the COVID-19 crisis, Trump and Republicans are actively fighting to take away our health care in the courts. The Trump administration would rather play politics and cozy up to billionaires than provide the most basic needs to people in this country when we need it most.

Women deserve a better leader. We want a leader who has a plan to keep us safe from the threat of COVID-19, and will ensure access to safe and affordable health care, including the full range of reproductive health care services, by:

  • Protecting the Affordable Care Act so that people who need health care coverage can get it.
  • Ensuring access to free COVID-19 testing and treatment for everyone
  • Expanding access to affordable health care through Medicaid and Medicare
  • Eliminating racial discrimination in treatment of people of color by health care professionals

4. Our Right to Vote Protected and Expanded

No one should have to risk their lives during this COVID-19 crisis in order to vote. To protect this election and our democracy, women want leaders to:

  • Make vote-by-mail available in all 50 states
  • Expand early voting in all 50 states to avoid long lines on election day
  • Expand same-day registration and online registration in all 50 states
  • Protect polling places and ensure we can all vote safely no matter where we live – especially in communities of color and tribal communities
