Supermajority Reacts to Drafted Supreme Court Opinion Striking Roe v Wade
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Washington, D.C. – In response to Politico reporting the Supreme Court of the United States is drafting a majority opinion to strike down Roe v. Wade, Supermajority Executive Director Amanda Brown Lierman issued the following statement:
“We are at one of the most frightening crossroads in the history of women’s reproductive justice and our ability to make decisions for our own bodies. But let’s be clear that abortion is still legal.
“The unprecedented release of the Supreme Court’s draft opinion to overturn Roe v. Wade, is a signal that the court may, in fact, remove women’s reproductive freedom, despite the will of the majority of voters across the country.
“If finalized, this arcane decision would endanger the health and wellbeing of millions of women — especially women of color who already have limited options to health care. This is unacceptable and we will not stand down while a constitutional right is obliterated.
“Now is the time for women to fight for abortion care and reproductive justice, to organize for abortion care and reproductive justice, and to vote for abortion care and reproductive justice. For women to be equal, our bodies must be respected. Every woman should have legal access to abortion care, regardless of their race or income.
“This is a bellwether moment for the rights of women in America. Let’s also be clear that women are voting, and that any politician who fails to use their power to stop this attack on women and our bodies will be voted out of office. That’s the power of choice.”
Supermajority is a women’s equality organization made up of women of all backgrounds, races, and ages who are coming together to create a future where we are truly equal.
