Supermajority’s Amanda Brown Lierman on the Build Back Better Act Negotiations

Plan to Engage Women Launches Today in Several States Where Women are Suffering

Washington, D.C. – Today, Supermajority Executive Director, Amanda Brown Lierman issued the following statement in response to the ongoing discussions around the Build Back Better Act on behalf of the more than 3.5 million women in the Supermajority community:

“Paid leave, affordable child care and the child tax credit are essential parts of the Build Back Better Act. We can’t recover and build back better without them. This is what millions of Americans want and need, and Congress must listen.

“Without these policies, Congress will continue to undermine the caregiving work that makes our economy function and the women who overwhelmingly make it possible. It will leave women – who are still struggling amid a pandemic that has pulled us from the workforce, taken our kids out of school and placed significant burdens on our families – without the support we need to get back on our feet.

“We have been calling for this support for generations, and we’re too close to seeing these policies realized to back down now. Women voted for this administration and Congress to prioritize the policies we care about. That includes paid leave, affordable child care and the child tax credit, all of which meet critical needs for women.

“We will keep pushing our leaders to get these policies over the finish line and create a future where our work is valued, our families are supported and our government represents us. Women are a supermajority of voters, and our message is clear: it’s time to deliver the support we need.”
