Supermajority’s Amanda Brown Lierman on the Supreme Court’s Decision to Overturn Roe v. Wade

Plan to Engage Women Launches Today in Several States Where Women are Suffering

Washington, D.C. In response to the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, Supermajority Executive Director Amanda Brown Lierman issued the following statement:

“Today’s decision sets a dangerous precedent — it makes clear that the Supreme Court is willing to gut well-established and widely-supported rights for the sake of political gain. By overturning Roe v. Wade, the Court has shown that our lives and well-being are up for grabs.

“This decision is about so much more than the right to access abortion. It is a decision that will harm millions of women, especially women of color, as well as our families and our communities, and have a devastating effect for decades to come.

“The ruling is a rallying cry for all women who refuse to stand by while our freedoms are slashed. My mother and grandma, alongside millions of other women, fought for this constitutional right. And I will be damned if my three daughters live in a country where they have fewer rights than I have personally had.

“Women are the supermajority of voters in the United States, and as such, we have the power to call the shots. Let the record show that women are organizing. We have to keep marching, and we have to protect our rights at the voting booth this summer and fall. We have to show up to elect representatives who will prioritize reproductive rights and who will fight for women every single day — and vote out those who don’t. That’s the power of choice, and that’s how we’re going to build a more equal world where our rights are safe and our lives, bodies, work, and families are finally valued.”
