Power in Lansing. Freedom for Michigan.
LANSING, Mich. — On Wednesday, April 23, Supermajority Education Fund will join Reproductive Freedom for All, Michigan United, and a statewide coalition of partners for Capitol Day, an all-day advocacy event in Lansing focused on protecting and expanding reproductive rights and freedoms in Michigan.
Buses from Detroit, Flint, Grand Rapids, and Saginaw will transport attendees to the Capitol, arriving around 9:00 a.m. Programming will begin shortly after breakfast and continue throughout the day, with storytelling, legislative meetings, and community-building activities. The formal program will conclude at 4:00 p.m., and buses will depart Lansing at 4:30 p.m.
“We know that protecting reproductive freedom is about more than legal rights. It’s about access, dignity, and justice,” said Tashawnna Gill, Michigan Program Lead for Supermajority Education Fund. “Capitol Day is an opportunity for our communities, especially Black and Brown women, to show up and be heard. This is our moment to remind lawmakers that reproductive freedom must include everyone, not just people with privilege or proximity to power.”
This event builds on the momentum of Michigan’s 2022 ballot victory for abortion access and comes at a time when reproductive freedoms continue to face ongoing challenges across the country. By bringing together communities from every corner of the state, Capitol Day highlights the collective power of those most directly affected to lead and shape inclusive policy change.
